Car share trial in the ACT
Transport for Canberra

A two year car sharing trial, giving residents access to a fleet of 22 vehicles across Canberra is now available.

The trial is being run by two car sharing companies GoGet and Popcar, who have already established programs across Australia.

22 car spaces across the ACT including the City (Magistrates Court Car park and London Circuit/Constitution Avenue), Dickson (Challis Street) and the Parliamentary Triangle have been allocated for these cars.

The program has a number of environmental benefits for the ACT, as well as economic benefits for those who use it.

The car sharing program will use newer, more fuel-efficient cars, including hybrid vehicles. By encouraging sharing the same vehicle between a number of different people, the program should encourage less car usage for individuals and fewer cars on the road.

The equipment each facility will receive has been selected following this community consultation. Both sites will receive a sit up bench, seated rower, leg press, chest press, leg raise and dip bars, and the Gungahlin site will also receive an assisted pull up machine.

Construction on the new fitness stations is expected to commence in March 2016 and works will be undertaken by The Great Outdoor Gym Company which has delivered outdoor gyms across Australia and the world.

Over 70% of respondents said the new equipment would encourage them to be more active, with people wanting to use it daily (10%), two to three times a week (38%) and weekly (37%).
