The Australian Capital Territory Government Information Portal, www.act.gov.au, offers integrated access to information about Canberra and the region, from ACT Government agencies, regional local government and the non-government sector.

The primary aim of the site is to provide easy online access to government information by enabling users to find what they are looking for without having to know which government agency to contact.

You will find a concentrated body of Australian Capital Territory Government material through the site. www.act.gov.au currently signposts more than 85 ACT Government web sites and uses both metadata and free text indexing to ensure that information can be accessed using a variety of approaches.

The Australian Government provides advice on internet security on Stay Smart Online. Stay Smart Online is designed to provide all Australian online users with practical tips and advice on e-security. This website contains basic information on how to secure your computer, best practice tips for smart transacting online, and information on keeping young people safe online.

Canberra Connect - an agency within the Territory and Municipal Services Directorate - administers the Australian Capital Territory Government Information Portal on behalf of the ACT Government.

All Commonwealth, State, Territory and local government departments, agencies and independent authorities' Web sites may link to this site.

Non-government organisations that wish to link to any component of the www.act.gov.au service from their sites, are requested to contact the ACT Government Information Portal Administrator to seek written permission.

Requests must be lodged by email or postal mail and include the URL (web address) of your site, a brief description of your site and appropriate contact details so that you can be advised of the outcome of the request.

Permission will be granted on the condition that the organisation must immediately notify the ACT Government Webmaster if a change is made to the requesting web site which results in one of the first three points below applying or if the organisation suspects that the change may mean the fourth point below may apply.

Organisations linking to this website must comply with any request from the ACT Government Portals Administrator to remove the link from the requesting website.

Permission will not be granted if inclusion on the requesting site implies the ACT Government endorses the site or product or if linking to the site is deemed to be in contravention of government policy or not in the publics interest.

Permission will also not be granted if the requesting site is solely commercial or if the content of the material is changed technically (eg. the material is framed and users are unable to determine the location of the original material.
