Business Names

Business names are required to be registered in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) under the Business Names Act 1963. Registration of business names provides a public record of particulars of persons who carry on business in the ACT using a business name.

Incorporated Associations

Associations, or not for profit organisations, may apply to the Office of Regulatory Services (ORS) for incorporation in the ACT under the Associations Incorporation Act 1991. The incorporation of Associations provides the public record of the financial affairs and status of an association, and of changes to its key personnel.

The Office of Regulatory Services provides access and advice relating to the registration of births, deaths, marriages, Justices of the Peace, business names, business licences, associations and land titles. ORS also oversee the management of residential rental bonds, vehicle registration, driver licencing, public events, Worksafe and the Working with Vunerable People Scheme.
