Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate

The Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate incorporates sections of what was formerly known as the the ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA). It is responsible for the Territory Plan, the Land Release program, development applications, leases and licences, regulating development and the building industry, land use, surveying and mapping, community consultation and public education on issues relating to planning and land in the ACT.

ACT Population Projection 2007 - 2019

The population of the ACT is projected to increase by 50,350 persons, to a total population of 390,100 persons by 2019. Much of the Territory's population growth is projected to occur in the new development areas of Gungahlin and Molonglo. Find more information about projected population growth in Canberra here.

Affordable Housing

The Affordable Housing Action Plan includes initiatives to provide more affordable housing and rental accommodation for Canberrans. It focuses on home ownership, private rental, community and not-for-profit housing, public housing and supported accommodation (including emergency housing), affordable housing for older Canberrans and homelessness.

The Chief Minister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate brings together business units of the ACT Government that focus on economic activity. While there is a strong focus on land release and development, and the coordination of major projects, the Directorate also works to facilitate business development, sporting, tourism and events, and other government activity, often in coordination with the private sector, to increase the economic performance of the ACT.

Draft environmental impact statements open for public comment. If you feel the application may affect you in any way and wish to object, you must lodge a written objection clearly stating the grounds for objection. However, you may also provide comments in support of the application by the closing date.

TCCS Building Applications

The Building Application - Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) statement of endorsement and/or compliance form is to be completed when applying to TCCS' for advice, statements of endorsements and/or statements of compliance required for a proposed development.

Land Development Agency

ACT Land Development Agency

The Land Development Agency (LDA) manages land sales and land development on behalf of the ACT Government. Their projects include Kingston Foreshore, Wells Station, Ginnindera Ridge and Gungahlin Town Centre.

Land Rent

ACT Revenue Office

The Land Rent Scheme is part of the ACT Government's Affordable Housing Action Plan. The Land Rent Scheme gives a lessee the option of renting land through a land rent lease rather than purchasing the land to build a home.
