Transport Canberra and City Services

Waterwatch involves local community catchment groups, Landcare, as well as residents, schools, utilities and landowners to regularly monitor the water quality of local creeks, wetlands, lake, rivers and stormwater drains.

Canberra Cemeteries

Transport Canberra and City Services

Canberra's Public Cemeteries are administered by the ACT Public Cemeteries Authority, which reports to the ACT Government through the Minister for Transport Canberra and City Services.

Staff are committed to meeting the requirements of families, arranging burials and placing ashes, as well as assisting families and visitors with an interest in the cemetery. Staff are also available to show people through the cemeteries.

The cemeteries, located in Gungahlin, Hall and Woden, are open everyday until sunset, with seats and shady areas provided at all cemeteries.

Grave indexes are regularly updated and can be searched in person at Gungahlin or Woden Cemeteries, or on the Canberra Cemeteries website.

Fix My Street

Chief Minister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate

Fix My Street is an online reporting facility which provides direct contact to ACT Government Agencies for the reporting of municipal service requests. Residents can submit their requests anonymously or they may create an account on the system which will allow them track the progress of the request.

Issues that can be reported via this facility include:

  • abandoned shopping trolleys
  • abandoned vehicles
  • air and noise pollution
  • damaged bicycle paths and footpaths
  • damaged/dangerous trees
  • damaged recreations facilities such as public BBQs and playgrounds
  • damaged survey infrastructure (survey marks)
  • domestic garbage a recycling collections
  • election campaign signage
  • graffiti, litter and dumping
  • nature strips
  • overgrown grass in public places
  • pot holes, sign damage, traffic lights and other road related issues
  • road safety and traffic concerns
  • stormwater drains
  • street lights
  • street sweeping.

Maintenance of public areas

Transport Canberra and City Services

Parks and Territory Services is committed to providing a wide range of land and open space management services to the residents of the ACT and visitors, and deliver a quality service that is value for money and environmentally sustainable within available resources.

Responsibilities include:

  • mowing;
  • weed removal;
  • vegetation management (including the control of pest plants and diseases);
  • urban lake and pond management (excluding Lake Burley Griffin);
  • litter and rubbish removal;
  • inspection and removal of graffiti; and
  • sweeping and cleaning of pedestrian pavements.

Recycling and waste

Transport Canberra and City Services

ACT NoWaste, within Transport Canberra and City Services provides a full range of services to manage the territory's waste. This includes:

  • household waste and recycling bin collections;
  • resource management centres (for general recycling, green waste, construction and demolition waste);
  • programs such as the bulky goods collection service, computer recycling scheme, the National television and computer recycling scheme and drumMUSTER;
  • asbestos and hazardous waste disposal; and
  • school and community education programs.

Trees and forests

Transport Canberra and City Services

Trees are an integral part of Canberra's landscape and design. Transport Canberra and City Services manages over 700,000 trees in residential streets, major road verges, urban parks and other open space areas throughout the city. Maintenance undertaken by City Services includes pruning, planting and removal of urban trees.
