The 240 litre green bin is for garden organics. The fortnightly service is available to Canberra households including most apartments and townhouses upon request by building management.

Garden organics is processed by Corkhill Bros at Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre where it is mulched and composted to produce nutrient rich soil conditioner products.

Composting garden organics reduces greenhouse gas emissions by decreasing the volume of organic material sent to landfill.

Please be aware: If you live in Belconnen town centre, Bruce, Cook or Macquarie, you may be part of a new Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) Pilot. Households in the pilot received a free green bin (known as their FOGO bin) in November 2021.

What can and can't go in your green bin

The green bin is for garden organics such as weeds, grass, clippings, prunings, flowers, leaves, twigs and small branches (no longer than 45cm long and a diameter of 10cm). Please also ensure that your bin is not too heavy (less than 50kg) so the truck can lift it.

Problems with your collection

If your green waste bin hasn’t been emptied despite putting it out by 7am on your collection day, contact JJ Richards on 6270 5070. Leave your bin on the kerbside until serviced.
