Location

Location

The new Critical Services Building will be built on the north-east side of Canberra Hospital campus, on an approximately 11,000 sqm area between Hospital Road and Palmer Street. The site is located on the current site of Building 5 and Building 24, and will connect via link-bridge across Hospital Road to exiting building.

The location was based on consultation and technical work to understand the best site for this new development. This included consultation with clinicians, consideration of the space available on campus, the requirement for efficient linkages to other hospital services and the ability to keep all clinical services operational during construction. A core requirement of the project is that vital health services for the Canberra community are not disrupted during the building of the new healthcare facility.

The location of the Critical Services Building also effectively re-purposes valuable campus space by demolishing ageing buildings (5 and 24) and replacing these with a new, purpose-built facility. The new build will accommodate contemporary models of care, new and emerging technologies and flexible design principles.
