Delivery Process
The delivery of the Canberra Hospital Expansion consists of two streams of activity that will run in parallel.
These are:
- Main works – the planning, design, procurement and delivery of the new Critical Services Building; and
- Enabling works – the planning, design, procurement and delivery of multiple projects necessary to facilitate main works e.g. clearing buildings on the new facility footprint and relocating services to ensure minimal disruption to healthcare services during the delivery phase of the Main Works.
Enabling works – preparing the campus
To facilitate the construction of the new facility, a series of projects (referred to as enabling works) are planning to prepare for the construction of the new facility:
Main works
Main works include the planning, design, procurement and delivery of the Critical Services Building.
The project is being procured under an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) model. This model will see the contractor work collaboratively with the Territory to improve design outcomes and optimise the construction aspects of the project.
Expressions of interest for the new facility’s design and construction partner closed at the end of 2019. Following an extensive evaluation process, the final two tenderers, Lendlease and Multiplex, were shortlisted in March 2020 to participate in the project’s ‘Request for Tender’ phase. Multiplex was announced as the ACT Government’s construction partner in August 2020 following this process.
Consultation will continue with clinicians, healthcare professionals, consumers and the community during all stages of the project.
