Experiment: First Nations

Experiment: First Nations

Haig Park Experiments is consulting local Ngunnawal Elders to determine opportunities to reconnect the site with its indigenous heritage. This will inform a variety of community-driven activities that acknowledge and celebrate the ongoing relationship between Ngunnawal people and Country, even when landscapes have been significantly altered.

Place plan theme: Heritage – ‘To conserve and respect the heritage values of the park.’

Dates: June – October 2019

Location: Various

Observation: There is limited general public awareness of the Ngunnawal relationship with the area of Haig Park.

Hypothesis: Consultation and community engagement supports self-determination for Ngunnawal people and can enable meaningful opportunities to continue ongoing reconciliation.

Favourable outcome: Create first steps towards an ongoing recognition and engagement with Ngunnawal history and contemporary culture in the Haig Park area.
