Haig Park Experiments are installing unique and playful "ballot bins" at existing bench locations to reduce cigarette litter. The bins feature a sign that asks a question and offers two to three answers over three separate receptacles, prompting the user to "vote" with their cigarette butt. Testing of this concept in the UK led to large decreases in cigarette litter.
Place plan theme: Infrastructure - ‘To enhance the function and use of the park.’ Date: Commencing late June Observation: Cigarette butts are frequently found in Haig Park around seating areas. This may be due to a lack of bins resulting in litter. Hypothesis: A creative strategy to address cigarette litter can result in improved amenity and attractiveness of Haig Park. Favourable outcome: Less cigarette litter around seating areas and improved public perception of the park. |
