Experiment: Nature Play

A site-specific nature play area will be installed in Haig Park incorporating sensory  (sound, smell, touch), cubby and adventure play. Imagine rocks, logs, sand and sunshine. The area will be designed for kids aged 4 to 10. The project will be supported by programming such as "come and try" days with a coffee cart on site as well as workshops and performances.

Place plan theme: Play

Date: August – October, with activities in school holiday periods.

Location: Located near Sullivan's Creek intersection between Greenway Street and Masson Street.

Observation: There are limited opportunities for facilitated play for kids and low numbers of children using Haig Park. This is a missed opportunity for kids to engage in play and learning in the park environment.

Hypothesis: A Nature Play facility could create an opportunity for kids play in Haig Park and increase visitation by children, parents and guardians. Nature Play could become a destination space. Educational opportunities may grow for local pre-schools and schools.

Favourable outcome: A quality temporary nature play area with connected programming resulting in increased use of Haig Park by children and families, plus longer dwell time.
