The city centre will have its own 12 days of Christmas this year with festive activities for the whole family from a Christmas forest in Civic through to backyard cricket in Glebe Park.
Christmas in the heart of Canberra will be even bigger and better this year with a significant increase in funding to help create a more festive experience.
Not only will there be a full program of events from 14 December through to Christmas Eve but the city centre will get a Christmas makeover.
City Walk, Garema Place and Petrie Plaza will be dressed for the season, with street art, decorations, lighting, a Christmas forest and entertainment to get Canberrans into the holiday spirit.
Because of the positive feedback from last year’s Glebe Park based festival it will again host a range of family-friendly Christmas activities, including a movie night and a family fun day filled with free activities.
Some of the highlights of this year’s city centre Christmas festival include:
12-24 December: City Walk, Garema Place and Petrie Plaza will host roving entertainers, scheduled performances and fun activities to make a visit to Civic a festive experience.
13 December: A ticketed long-table dinner in Glebe Park that will highlight some of the fantastic food and drinks that our region has to offer.
14 December: A free movie night in Glebe Park with classic Christmas films on the big screen.
15 December: A family fun day in Glebe Park with something for everyone to enjoy, including children’s cooking classes, creative workshops and backyard cricket.
22 December: Breakfast with Santa – bring the kids in to Civic to visit Santa.
This year’s event is being delivered by local event organisers Damsel and Sprout, who also organised last year’s city Christmas festival, with funding from the City Renewal Authority, EventsACT and the City Centre Marketing and Improvement Levy.
