The City Renewal Authority team and collaborators were awarded the Planning Excellence Award for Best Planning Ideas – Small Project at the recent Planning Institute of Australia awards night on Friday 25 October 2019. The award recognised the Authority’s place planning approach to community led renewal for Braddon, Dickson and Haig Park.
These three locations have been the focus of much of the authority’s work in 2019 and are right now in the midst of transformation, guided by a place-led approach. Each of the place plans in their unique locations have tapped into the local community’s knowledge to harness their wisdom and sentiment for the area. With this knowledge, the Authority and collaborators identified and incorporated best practice urban design and place planning approaches to inform the evolution of the unique places.
Currently, the first phase of implementation of the place plans is being delivered in Braddon, Dickson and Haig Park. As the place plans continue to be implemented in each area, community feedback will be garnered to continue transforming each place based on the area’s unique qualities.
A big thank you to all of the collaborators who helped to make these place plans a reality. The Project Team includes Spaced Out Placemakers, Place Laboratory, Town Team Movement, Complete Constructions (Aust) Pty Ltd, Sweet Potato, Threesides Marketing, CoDesign Studio, Right Angle Studio, Oculus, Tait Network, University of Canberra, Ainslie & Gorman Arts Centre, and Dionysus
We look forward to another year of implementing innovative planning and design ideas, working with our valued collaborators and the Canberra community.
