Poets for Breakfast is a two-morning event that provides an opportunity to start your day with poetry and music in the heart of the city centre.

Poets for Breakfast received funding through the first round of 2018 City Grants, which are funded through the City Centre Marketing and Improvement Levy, a fee paid by property owners in the city centre.

Poets for Breakfast fills the stomach and feeds the soul

Poetry and music was served up for breakfast in a pop-up lounge room at Poets Corner in Garema Place from 10am till noon on Saturday (26 May).

Poets for Breakfast 1.0 was the first of two breakfast poetry events organised by Karina Palomita supported by a City Grant from the City Renewal Authority. The next event will take place on Saturday 23 June.

City Renewal chief executive Malcolm Snow said the City Grants program supported projects that contributed to a lively city centre and encouraged social exchange and diversity in its public spaces.

“Creativity is vital to making our city centre an exciting and engaging place to be,” Mr Snow said.

“Having quirky, enjoyable and accessible events like Poets for Breakfast in our city centre makes each visit a special experience.”

Feature poets Zoe Anderson and Jacqui Malins as well as local authentic Romanian folk outfit, Super Rats, provided the entertainment at Poets for Breakfast 1.0.

The event, which was emceed by well-known local identity Chris Endrey, also provided an opportunity for a members of the public to perform as part of an open mic segment.

Food and coffee was available to purchase from Sly Fox Coffee as well as from surrounding cafes and restaurants.
