Growing and Renewing housing program

Learn about your options if your home is part of the program. You can decide to stay, move or change your mind.

Growing and Renewing is a Housing ACT program building new public housing in the ACT.

We are selling some public housing properties and knocking down others so new homes can be built. If a tenant who lives in one of these homes wants to move, they will be given a new place to live.

Not all Housing ACT properties can be part of this program.

We may contact you to ask if you would like to move house. You do not have to move.

You can also contact us to check if you can be part of the program and move house.

If you want to know more about moving house we will:

  • meet with you and tell you about your options
  • offer you a home to move into
  • help you move house.

Moving is voluntary, and you can change your mind at any time.

Learn about your options

A Tenant Relocation Officer will come and meet with you at a time and place that suits you. You can bring someone along to support you.

At the meeting, the Tenant Relocation Officer will take you through the process from beginning to end.

You can decide whether you would like to move. If you do not want to move we won’t ask you again.

If you change your mind, you can contact the Tenant Relocation Officer at any time.

If you decide to move house

You will meet with your Tenant Relocation Officer as many times as you need. They will

  • ask you what you need your home to have
  • ask you about what help you need to move
  • give you a list of services that can support you
  • write a report about your household and the supports you have asked for
  • give you the report to check.

If you don’t agree with the report you can:

  • ask your Tenant Relocation Officer to make changes
  • ask for a Housing ACT senior staff member to check the report.

The report will go to a person in Housing ACT who will decide what supports you can get and anything extra you need.

Your Tenant Relocation Officer will tell you what help you will get to move house.

You can decide if you still want to move.

Getting an offer

We want to find you the right home. Your Tenant Relocation Officer will work with you to find a home that meets your needs. We put a lot of thought into a home before we offer it to you.

We will offer you 2 suitable homes that:

  • meet your housing preferences, such as location
  • have the number of bedrooms your household is entitled to
  • meet your medical or special needs.

We will offer you one home first. If you don’t want to move, you can tell us why.

We will offer you one more home. If you do not want to move to this home we may not offer you another one.

Help to move house

After we have found you the right home we will help you move.

We will provide support as you get ready to move, including money for:

  • electricity, gas, and water connection fees
  • telephone and internet reconnection fees
  • removalist costs
  • other reasonable costs for setting up your new home.

After you move, we will help you settle into your new home and community.

Help from community organisations
