Overview

Infrastructure projects that have significant complexity and scale are classified as major projects by the ACT Government. Each project is designed to help Canberra become one of the worlds more liveable cities. There are four major projects being led by Infrastructure Canberra (iCBR). This includes:

  • CIT Woden Campus
  • Canberra Theatre Centre Redevelopment
  • Light Rail.

Each project is managed by an external project board and have direct lines of accountability to the responsible minister. The specific make up of each project board is based on its scope and which ACT Directorates have operations that intersect with the project.

CIT Woden Campus

iCBR has partnered with CIT and the Community Services Directorate to deliver the CIT Woden Campus project.

The project includes a new light rail ready Woden Transport Interchange and a youth foyer to support vulnerable young people who are studying. It is being built on the former Woden bus interchange site. The campus will cater for around 6,500 students each year.

Facilities include digitally enabled learning spaces within a contemporary, sustainable and smart campus. Located in the heart of Woden, the new campus will have an ongoing and positive impact on the delivery of vocational education and training in the ACT.

Canberra Theatre Centre Transformation

The Canberra Theatre Centre transformation will create a performing arts centre of national and international significance in the heart of Canberra. The ACT Government is planning for a revitalised Canberra Theatre Centre which will attract the world-renowned musicals, circus shows, ballet and opera people travel to see. Light Rail

Light rail represents a significant investment in our public transport infrastructure. It aims to transform the way we move through the city and deliver modern efficient public transport services. Light rail provides a safe and reliable connection to work, family, learning, communities and attractions.

iCBR is working with the National Capital Authority, Directorates and the community to deliver the next stage of light rail. This work will extend the network into Woden and is split into two stages:

Stage 2A will provide access to Commonwealth Park. This will improve connection between the city, the lake and local amenities. Three stops will be added to this 1.7 kilometre section of the network. It will pass over both Territory and Commonwealth land.

A key component of Stage 2A is raising London Circuit which is now underway. This will fundamentally change the connection between the city and the lake. The new intersection will deliver an active travel focused interchange for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. Construction of Stage 2A will commence once the Raising London Circuit component is completed. This stage of light rail is jointly funded by the Australian Federal Government and the ACT Government.
