Our Projects

City to Woden Light Rail

We are planning, constructing and operating light rail today to ensure the Canberra of tomorrow – with a population of 500,000 by 2030 – can move easily and continue to enjoy Canberra as one of Australia’s most liveable cities.

Having delivered light rail from Gungahlin to the City in April 2019, we are now ready to extend the north-south spine down to Woden.

Canberra Hospital Expansion

The Canberra Hospital is expanding to include a new emergency, surgical and critical healthcare facility with more operating rooms, more treatment spaces and more intensive care beds.

We are working to future-proof our public healthcare system to meet the needs of our growing city by delivering a bigger, better Canberra Hospital.

CIT Woden Campus

We are preparing to build a state-of-the-art Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) campus and public transport interchange at Woden Town Centre.

This significant investment in Woden’s renewal will support job creation, both during construction and once the facility is operational, while aiding long-term economic growth in the area. It is anticipated that 6,500 students will use the new campus each year, benefitting from a contemporary educational environment, courses suited to jobs of the future, and enhanced connections with local industry.

Canberra Theatre Redevelopment

The Canberra Theatre Redevelopment project will create a nationally significant destination for artists and audiences in the heart of Canberra’s Civic and Cultural District.

The project encompasses a new 2,000 seat theatre and upgrades to the Courtyard Studio, The Playhouse and Canberra Theatre.

It is the ACT Government’s ambition for Canberra to be recognised as Australia’s arts capital and the redevelopment of the Canberra Theatre Centre brings this vision another step closer.

Infrastructure Delivery Partners

The Infrastructure Delivery Partners (IDP) group within Major Projects Canberra manages the procurement and delivery of smaller, yet essential, infrastructure projects to enable the delivery of government services.

The IDP group is led by the ACT Chief Engineer, who is supported by three Executive Branch leaders in Social Infrastructure, Civil Infrastructure and Commercial Infrastructure. Across these three branches, IDP in partnership with other government directorates, deliver projects as varied as building new schools, redeveloping community centres, upgrading roads and footpaths, and fitting out offices.
