Industrial Relations & Employment Certification

The Industrial Relations and Employment Obligation Certification (IRE) is being replaced by the Secure Local Jobs Code Certificate. All businesses tendering for construction work must have a Secure Local Jobs Code Certificate which took effect on 15 January 2019.

Applications for IRE Certificates are no longer available for new work. Only those businesses who entered a contract prior to the Secure Local Jobs Code requirements which commenced in January 2019, may renew their IRE Certificate to meet the requirements of their existing contract.

If you have a current contract which requires an IRE Certificate, you can either renew your IRE Certificate or apply for a Secure Local Jobs Code Certificate which will meet the requirements of your current contract(s). For more information visit the Secure Local Jobs Code page.

The Compliance with Industrial Relations and Employment Obligations Strategy was introduced to ensure that best practice industrial relations and employment compliance is part of the culture of the construction industry, particularly with respect to ACT Government contracts.

Details on how to renew your Industrial Relations and Employment Certification are outlined in the Information Sheet for Contractors. You must lodge your application and supporting documentation with an auditor from the List of Registered IRE Auditors.
