Canberra’s newest public hospital
Canberra is getting a new public hospital to be built next to the University of Canberra in Bruce.
The University of Canberra Public Hospital (UCPH) will be a purpose-built rehabilitation hospital providing outpatient services, 140 overnight beds and capacity for 75 day service places. It will provide rehabilitation and support for people with illness or injuries or who are recovering from surgery, and an adult mental health rehabilitation unit and day service. This type of hospital is called a sub-acute hospital as it does not have services such as an emergency department, intensive care unit or maternity.
Over time, Canberra's newest and third public hospital is expected to lighten the load at nearby Calvary and at Canberra Hospital.
Construction is due to start early next year and completed within three years.
