Waiting times improve at Canberra Hospital

Waiting times in Canberra Hospital’s Emergency Department are improving.

Between March and June 2016, the average waiting time in the Canberra Hospital’s ED improved by 14% and the average treatment time dropped by 34 minutes when compared to the same time period last year. Overall, the average waiting time has reduced to 57 minutes compared to 66 minutes in the same period in 2015.

The ACT Government has invested $29 million over the next four years for additional doctors and nurses to staff the
Canberra Hospital ED in the 2016-17 ACT Budget.

The $23 million expansion of the Canberra Hospital ED is also moving quickly, which will increase the total number of treatment spaces in ED by 30%, from 54 to 75.
