Making Ainslie more age-friendly
Plans have been released for active travel improvements in Ainslie and Weston as part of the Age Friendly Suburbs Active Travel project.
Path replacement, kerb ramp upgrades, new lighting and changes to pedestrian refuge islands are some of the priority one improvements that will be rolled out in the two suburbs to make it easier for older residents to get around.
Following community consultation in late 2015 it was identified that footpath and road crossing improvements were the most important to the community. Over 85 per cent of Weston residents and nearly 90 per cent of Ainslie residents wanted to see better footpaths as a first or second priority, and road crossing improvements were selected by just over 50 per cent of both Ainslie and Weston residents.
Work is expected to begin in May.
Kaleen and Monash have been selected as the next pilot suburbs in the project. Community feedback from consultations held last week will help develop a list of priority improvements for the suburb to be designed and constructed over the next financial year.
