Green bins coming to Canberra

Thousands of Canberra households will be offered the opportunity to participate in a green bin pilot in 2017, helping the community to dispose of garden waste in a responsible, cost-effective way.

It’s an important new service for ratepayers and will help to divert around 5,000 tonnes of garden waste that is currently going to landfill each year.

The new service will be trialled in Weston Creek and Kambah starting 2017, with households able to opt-in for a one-off, cost-recovery deposit of around $50. The pilot will be reviewed after 12 months and if successful, rolled out across Canberra.
