Canberra's most popular baby names
The most popular baby names of 2018 have been released and, while William and Amelia are the reigning names across Canberra, some other names proved popular across the regions.
Amelia and William have both been popular names in the past, with William back in first place across Canberra after slipping to second place last year for the first time since 2013.
Amelia is also a favourite of Canberrans with the name consistently ranked in the top 10 since 2011 and previously topping the list in 2016 and 2014.

Across Canberra, different names took out the top honours for each region. Ella shared the honours with Olivia in Belconnen, while William remained the most popular boys’ name.
Oliver was the most popular boys’ name across the Gungahlin region, while Olivia and Amelia tied for the top spot. Henry was the most popular boys name across the Inner North and Inner South, while Zoe and Chloe were the top girls’ names.
Alexander and Oliver were the most popular boys’ names in Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo, while Lucy took out the top girls’ name. Ava took the top honours as the most popular girls’ name, while William kept the number one spot across the Tuggeranong region.
As of 10 December 2018, 5,900 births had been registered in the ACT; 2,903 baby girls, and 2,997 baby boys.
