Ride, walk, skate or scoot to school in 2018
The start of the school year is fast approaching and now is the time to think about how your kids will be getting to school in 2018.
This year, consider incorporating some extra physical activity into your child’s day by letting them ride, walk, scoot or skate, all or part of the way to school.
Active Streets for School
The new ‘Active Streets for Schools’ program is an extension of the ‘Ride or Walk to School’ program to make the environment around ACT schools safer to ride or walk.
As part of the program, blue stencils can be found on footpaths leading up to more than 20 participating schools across Canberra.
These stencils guide the students to school, giving parents peace of mind that the route to school is safe and easy to follow. The stencils are used in conjunction with the school maps to promote routes with minimal road crossings.
This new Active Streets program will not only help to get more kids more active, but helps alleviate some of the traffic congestion created by parents dropping kids off at the school gate.
