Early start to the ACT bushfire season
Due to the dry conditions, the ACT bushfire season started a month earlier than usual on 1 September 2018.
The bushfire season usually commences on 1 October and runs through until 31 March, but after assessment of the current conditions and consideration of forecast weather, the ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) made the decision to start the ACT bushfire season early.
All Canberrans should ensure they understand Fire Danger Rating (FDR) levels to help them make decisions when travelling in and around the ACT.
ESA will update the Fire Danger Rating daily, which is displayed on electronic signs on all major arterial roads across the ACT, or on the ESA website.
Find out if you live in a Bushfire Prone Area (BPA) and download a Bushfire Survival Plan from the ESA website. Fill it in and have a discussion with your family about what to do in the event of a fire, or other emergency.
