New school in North Gungahlin named
Canberrans have helped choose the visual identity for Canberra’s newest school in North Gungahlin.
The Margaret Hendry School will be opening in the suburb of Taylor in time for the 2019 school year.
As an important facility for the whole North Gungahlin community, local families, teachers, parents of school-aged children, community organisations and the broader Canberra community, were asked to share their views.
Community engagement to help name the new school, and choose a uniform and a logo ran for a six week consultation period ending in July.
The engagement process saw more than 2000 unique visitors to the dedicated YourSay site and feedback was also received through online voting, resident drop-in sessions, emails and social media which helped finalise the different aspects of the school’s visual brand.
The Margaret Hendry School will cater for 176 preschool and 600 primary school students when it opens for Term 1, and more than 160 students have already enrolled to start the 2019 school year.
