Green waste bins are for garden vegetation only.

27 August 2019

The Green Waste Bin collection is saving Canberrans time and money and is reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.

Since the roll out of the Green Waste Bin Service to all of Canberra in April 2019, participating households have recovered more than 2700 tonnes of green waste for conversion into valuable mulch products.

Canberra residents can register for a green bin for a one-off fee of $50.

Please do not put kitchen waste into the green bin. These bins are for garden vegetation only, which includes:

  • garden prunings
  • leaves
  • grass clippings
  • weeds
  • small branches (no longer than 45cm and a diameter of 10cm)
  • flowers.

Green bins are collected on alternate fortnights to the recycling bin service. To find out when your green bin will be collected visit tccs.act.gov.au
