More health services for Canberra

Medical professionals seeing a patient at Calvary Public Hospital Calvary Public Hospital is expanding with 41 new doctors and nurses.

Upgrades at both Calvary Public Hospital Bruce and Canberra Hospital will give Canberrans more health options.

Canberra Hospital is receiving an upgrade with the Surgical Procedures, Interventional Radiology and Emergency (SPIRE) Centre, which will include 114 treatment spaces in Emergency and 60 Intensive Care Unit beds — four of these being dedicated paediatric ICU beds.

There will also be:

  • 22 new operating theatres and
  • interventional radiology theatres that support the most advanced medical technology and techniques in Canberra.

Site works will start this year and are expected to be complete in 2023-24.

Calvary Public Hospital Bruce is also expanding, with two new operating theatres, the first of which will be ready for use next year. There will also be a bigger Emergency Department with 41 new doctors and nurses when its expansion is complete.
