Sustainability a top priority at Ainslie School

Ainslie School students taking care of the school garden Ainslie School was nominated for the School of the Year award.

Ainslie School has set a wonderful example of how to support the environment with its Actsmart Schools program 5-Star sustainability rating.

The school was nominated last year for the School of the Year award in the inaugural Actsmart Schools Awards.

The school's sustainability team, Ainslie Organic Kids, check for leaking taps and bubblers, as well as plant, grow and harvest vegetables for use in the canteen and cooking lessons – and their canteen is waste-free.

The awards celebrate excellence in the Actsmart Schools focus areas;

  • waste and recycling management
  • efficient use of energy
  • actions to address water use and quality
  • improvements to school grounds and biodiversity and
  • the inclusion of sustainability within the curriculum.
