Changes to green bin collections from 1 April 2019

Green bins are now collected on the alternate fortnight to your recycling bin day.

If your normal fortnightly recycling day is Monday, then your green bin will go out the following Monday. The new bin collection calendar is available now to download at tccs.act.gov.au.

What goes in your green bin?

Green waste refers to garden vegetation waste which includes:

  • garden prunings
  • leaves
  • grass clippings
  • weeds
  • small branches (no longer than 45cm and a diameter of 10cm)
  • flowers.

You can still register to get a green bin

If you live in Canberra and you have your own domestic rubbish and recycling bins you can sign up for a green bin too.

More than 50,000 Canberra households have already signed up to receive their green bin since the pilot began in 2017.

Register now for a one-off $50 payment to receive a green bin, residents with one of the below concession cards can receive the service for free:

  • ACTION Gold Card
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card
  • Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card
  • MyWay Seniors Card (for people who are aged 70 years and above)
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Pension Card
