Walking or riding to school is a fun, safe and healthy way for Canberra kids to get to and from school.

This Friday 17 May is the perfect time to try it out during the Walk Safely to School Day.

The Active Streets for Schools program encourages school communities to get active on the commute to and from school.

Active Streets makes it easier and safer for children to ride or walk to school. Not only does this get kids active, it gives parents peace of mind that the route to school is safe and easy to follow.

The program will expand during 2018-2022 with an 52 additional schools included in program to make walking or riding to school safe and easy to navigate.

Some of the improvements delivered through Active Streets include new or improved footpath connections, more safe crossings, traffic calming measures like speed humps or wayfinding signage on paths.
