Stamp duty changes for first home buyers

A family moving boxes from a truck into a new house. A new scheme will soon replace the current First Home Owner Grant.

If you're a first home buyer and buy a home after 1 July 2019 and if your household income is below $160,000, you won’t pay stamp duty.

It won't matter whether the home you are buying is newly built or existing, or how much the home costs. This will help more people buy the first home that’s right for them.

The new scheme will replace the current First Home Owner Grant, which will end on 30 June 2019.
