More choice for first home buyers

A person looking at a open house guide for Canberra. Eligible first home buyers in Canberra won't have to pay stamp duty.

Some first home buyers in the ACT will no longer have to pay stamp duty from 1 July 2019.

For transactions entered into from 1 July 2019, if your household income is below $160,000 you won’t pay stamp duty on your first home . It will not matter whether the home you are buying is newly built or existing, or how much the home costs. This will help more people buy the first home that’s right for them.

The new scheme will replace the current First Home Owner Grant, which will end on 30 June 2019.
