Stromlo Leisure Centre on track for 2020 opening.
Construction of Stromlo's new leisure centre is progressing well with the facility, which will include a 50-metre swimming pool, expected to open in the first half of 2020.
The centre will serve the growing Weston Creek, Woden and Molonglo communities and will be a sister site for Canberra’s other public aquatic facilities including Dickson Pool, Manuka Pool, Civic Pool, Lakeside Leisure Centre at Tuggeranong and the Gungahlin Leisure Centre.
Facilities at the Stromlo centre will include:
- An eight-lane 50-metre competition pool capable of being split into 2 x 25-metre short course swimming pools
- A learn-to-swim pool
- A leisure pool
- A splash pad and slide
- A gym
- Family change rooms
- A creche
- A kiosk/café
Pouring of concrete structures for the 50-metre, learn to swim, leisure (including toddler pool), splash park and balance tanks are now complete. Tiling of the walls in the 50-metre lap pool has begun.
Pouring of the pool hall columns and installation of the precast panels to the western plant room has also taken place.
The installation of the gym pods, café and reception area is well underway, too.
