Doing your part to build a sustainable Canberra

Climate change is affecting our city in many ways, from hotter and longer heatwaves to drought and extreme rainfall.

Living infrastructure can help keeps Canberra cool and liveable in the changing climate and includes:

  • Trees
  • Wetlands
  • Green spaces

Canberra’s Living Infrastructure Plan: Cooling the City, sets out actions to protect and enhance nature in the city.

Achieving these actions will require involvement from Canberrans.

You can help by including more grass, plants, water features and trees around your home or by joining a local Landcare or Parkcare group.

Interesting fact: Canberra has around 1.5 million trees, which shades about 21% of our city.
