If you have caught a bus in Canberra then chances are you have met Les, Transport Canberra’s Northside Field Operations Manager.
Recently, Les celebrated 35 incredible years of service with Transport Canberra.
Being proactive in logic and problem solving has meant Les has always been a valuable team member throughout many changes over the years.
He looks after bus operations northside of the lake and ensures everything runs smoothly including making sure everyone gets home safely from sporting matches and major events like Skyfire.
Before joining ACTION as a bus driver in 1984, Les worked in the construction industry for 17 years. One of his first jobs was helping to develop the suburb of Duffy in Weston Creek.
At 35 years of age, Les decided it was time for a change and applied to be a bus driver.
Over the years, Les has worn many hats while at Transport Canberra. He has worked his way up the ranks to his current position as Northside Field Operations Manager.
Les has also worked in the bus wash and refuelling bays, as Health and Safety delegate, Transport Officer, Manager of ACTION Comms and has been involved in network planning.
35 years later and Les is still with Transport Canberra and as passionate as ever about his role.
His passion and strong sense of community was strengthened during his time as a longstanding NSW volunteer bushfire fighter and as a member and captain of the Hall and ESA Brigades. Les retired from firefighting shortly after the 2003 fires that devastated Canberra.
When Les gets to enjoy some downtime, you can catch him down at his coastal property, spending quality time with his wife, children and grandkids. He loves the outdoors, enjoying activities such as fishing, swimming, gardening, caravanning and working around the shed.
Congratulations to Les on 35 years of amazing service!
