If you’re a regular visitor to Woden Library, then you’ve most likely been helped by Colleen at one point or another.

Colleen first joined Libraries ACT in August 2018, after completing a degree in Library Studies, believing that “Public libraries are crucial to communities, particularly as they offer free and equitable access to information. Public libraries help to break down barriers that people in the community may face, and to serve the community at large.  I feel proud to be serving my community with this organisation.”

Colleen’s favourite part of the job is working with customers and helping them to engage with the library’s collection, whether it be through “helping people with reference enquiries, or finding a great new author, or simply engaging children with the collection through our various literacy and STEM programs (Storytime, Giggle & Wiggle, Lego Brick Club).”

While library branches have been closed, Colleen has been working to continue delivering services online. Libraries ACT has set up a dedicated helpline to assist customers in engaging with the online services that they can already access through their library memberships, including e-book and e-audiobook collections, e-magazines and newspapers, music and even video streaming. They are also now delivering new Online Storytime and Giggle & Wiggle that parents and kids can watch together at home.

While it may be cliché, Colleen’s favourite thing to do in her down time is read. Preferred genres include history and philosophy, but her favourite genre is Nordic-Noir books and tv shows.  She even began studying Norwegian so she “didn’t have to read subtitles”! She is also very active and loves the snow; “usually you would find me hitting the ski slopes in Winter, or heading on an overseas trip”.

Thanks for all your hard work, Colleen!
