The site of the popular Old Bus Depot Markets is undergoing a facelift.
The major infrastructure upgrades will start this month and continue through to the first half of 2021.
The project will improve the safety, accessibility, functionality and sustainability of the facility.
“The building is a wonderful space for people to enjoy the markets, however it is ageing and there have been some maintenance issues arise lately, including damage by the hail storm earlier this year,” said Richard Vagi, spokesperson for the Old Bus Depot Markets.
Upgrades will include:
- replacing the roof and skylights over the entire complex
- replacing the electrical system including the main switchboard
- installing energy efficient light fittings and water-saving fixtures
- refurbishing the upper and lower hall toilet facilities.
This will all help to keep the ACT Heritage Listed building in top shape well into the future.
The project is also good news for construction workers, creating more job opportunities as the ACT Government moves into the recovery phase of the COVID-19 response. Projects like this are helping ease financial pressure on Canberra families during this difficult time.
