Nine-time Formula One Grand Prix winner and Queanbeyan local Mark Webber has officially re-opened the upgraded ‘Circuit Mark Webber’ track in Fairbairn Park.

A $200,000 investment by the ACT Government has provided the local motorsport community with a modernised and extended track, with improvements staged over the past few months to avoid disruption.

The upgrades mean there are now better opportunities for aspiring racers to test out their skills and develop the confidence to consider a career as a professional driver, perhaps inspired by the achievements of Webber.

The Canberra Kart Racing Club can host national and international events on what is now one of the best tracks in Australia.

Bob Harnas, President of the Canberra Kart Racing Club, said the upgrades were an exciting result for Karting in Canberra.

‘[The club] is incredibly proud to showcase the 350m extension to Circuit Mark Webber,’ he said.

The official re-opening of the circuit comes just in time for the Club Championships, which kick off in April.
