Work is underway to build a new on-street interchange on Callam Street, including the Woden light rail stop and bus layover.

The new interchange will feature 10,000m2 of passenger-friendly space and an expanded on-street interchange of 18 bus stops, increasing from the current 11. A light rail station will also be built, operating as a rapid bus stop until light rail reaches Woden.

The public transport interchange will be closely integrated with the new CIT Woden campus, providing direct transport access for 6500 students and staff.

Canberrans are invited to have a say on a new Bowes/Bradley connection, as well as a new pedestrian boulevard linking the new interchange with the Woden Town Centre as part of the new CIT Woden Campus, which will be built on the site of the current Woden bus interchange.

The first phase of construction work includes building:

• new bus layovers on Launceston and Easty Streets, including driver amenity facilities
• road improvements on Wilbow, Easty, Launceston and Callam streets
• new traffic signals installed at the Bowes/Launceston, Callam/Launceston and Easty/Launceston intersections
• new pedestrian crossings across the town centre.

There will be traffic changes to Callam Street between Bradley Street and Matilda Street from around mid-August.
