Street art adds colour and character to the streets of Canberra.

16 June 2021

Canberra’s first urban street art festival is being planned for November, and we are looking for talented local and interstate artists to participate in the program.

If this sounds like you or someone you know, you’ve got until Friday 25 June to submit an expression of interest to be involved.

The ACT Surface Festival will transform Braddon and Civic from 5 – 7 November 2021 as large blank surfaces on buildings and laneways become canvasses for colourful urban creations. The artworks will showcase a range of themes and subjects, including portraits.

It will be designed for people to wander through Braddon and Civic to observe artworks being painted and get involved in public events across the weekend.

More information will be released over the coming months, including artwork locations, a program of events and artist line-up.

Locations will only be included in the festival with the full consent of property owners.

The festival will leave a colourful and memorable mark on our city as it enlivens our streets and laneways in the CBD.

Organisations are being approached to help shape the festival, with opportunities available to host workshops, panel talks, exhibitions, and tours in a COVID-safe way.

We are calling on community organisations, businesses and local and interstate artists to participate in the festival, and an expression is open now until 18 June.

If you are a creative individual, local business, group or organisation who would like to have a self funded event considered on the curated festival program or if you are an artist with a passion and talent for street art, find out all you need to know at: www.cityservices.act.gov.au
