Gold Creek Smoking Ceremony

The smoking ceremony at Gold Creek School's senior learning area.

24 June 2021

An expansion to Gold Creek School’s senior learning area has been marked by a traditional smoking ceremony to cleanse the site.

The expansion, due to be completed before term one next year, will include a mixture of contemporary learning areas ranging from large studios, adaptable learning spaces and smaller quiet spaces, all connected to the outdoors and integrated to the existing school buildings.

The changes also include:

  • a new staff workspace
  • meeting rooms and amenities for staff and students
  • bicycle and car park upgrades.

The expansion will accommodate an extra 200 students, raising the overall capacity to a little over 1,000 for the beginning of the 2022 year.

This project is being delivered by Rork Projects as part of the ACT Government’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Procurement Policy to support increased employment and economic participation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Canberra Region.
