As Canberra’s fastest growing region, Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo will benefit from the 2021-22 ACT Budget with major infrastructure investments in health, transport, and education.

The Budget is the next stage of the Government’s plan to support Canberrans through the pandemic and recover from this once-in-a-generation crisis.

Coombs will receive a new community centre as part of the ACT Government’s continuing investment in the Molonglo region.

The Coombs Community Centre, located on Woodberry Avenue, will include 300m2 of privately owned space for use by the community, including recreational, educational, artistic, social, or cultural activities.

Planning and design work on improvements to Garran Primary School will commence in the coming months.

As part of the Territory’s largest ever investment in infrastructure, $11 million will be provided for the Woden Light Rail.

Record investments in health will see funding provided in the 2021-22 ACT Budget for the construction, fit-out and ongoing maintenance of a Cancer Research Centre at the Canberra Hospital. The Canberra Hospital will also see funding for an expanded Intensive Care Unit and improvements to the Emergency Department and emergency surgery to better meet the needs of Canberrans needing emergency care.

Visitors to the Mawson Group Centre will enjoy a new footpath network and active travel connection improvements, street lighting, seating and shade trees on the southern side of the centre. The construction of stormwater drainage will also prevent the area being affected by floodwaters.

Other suburban infrastructure projects in the region will include construction funding for Duffy shops, Brierly Street design and construction, new toilets at the Farrer nature play space and upgrades to pathways in Chifley as part of the Age Friendly Suburbs Program.
