Canberrans know Dickson is a top spot for dining out. You can take your pick of cuisine, and as the revitalisation of Woolley Street nears completion, dining outdoors is more enjoyable than ever.

But did you know there’s so much more to this popular inner-north suburb? Here are six of the top things to do in Dickson.

See large-scale talent on a street art trail

Roaming Dickson shops and its laneways reveals a wealth of street art from some of Canberra’s most talented. Start at Malabar Apartments on the intersection of Cape and Woolley streets – you’ll find sprawling works by the likes of Gold St. Press and Peque & TkChavez.

Sign up for Storytime at Dickson Library

Entertain the little ones by taking advantage of events on offer at Dickson Library. Try Storytime (for kids aged 0–2 years), Giggle and Wiggle (3–5 years) or Story Dogs (7+ years). It’s a great way to keep the kids happy and meet other parents. Follow it with a coffee and babycino.

Get your caffeine quota on a café hop

Sure, Dickson is renowned for its dining, but its coffee is top-notch too. Cafés like Hudsons of Dickson, Praga Café, and My Rainbow Dreams are Dickson institutions serving up quality espresso, while relative newcomers like Highroad and Moo and Chick also draw a crowd.

Show local business some love

There are plenty of ways to support small business owners at Dickson shops. Discuss your health needs at Dickson Health Foods, grab something celebratory at Dickson Cake Shop, then find a one-of-a-kind gift at Trove or Good Day Gift Shop, plus that perfect card at Dickson Newsagency.

Get active in the water – or beside it

As the weather finally warms, why not make a splash at Dickson Aquatic Centre? With three pools and a splash park, there’s something for all ages. If you prefer to stay dry, a walk or jog around the Dickson and Lyneham Wetlands a little further afield is a scenic way to work up a sweat.

Say hi to Santa

Gather the family – including your beloved furry friend – for a pet-friendly family Santa photo. You’ll find the Santa Stage located beside the library each weekend until 17 December. Photos are free and, best of all, there’s no need for a booking.
