The new Strathnairn primary school and Early Childhood Education Care setting will be built by a female-led construction team, as part of ACT Government efforts to improve gender equity in the industry.

The successful contractor will be required to have a 100 per cent female site management team, as well as female participation in every trade involved.

Currently, women account for less than 14 per cent of Australia’s construction workforce.

The ACT Government’s support of more inclusive hiring practices sends a message that construction does not need to be a gender-specific career.

Scheduled for completion in 2025, the school will cater for more than 600 preschool to year 6 students and include an Early Childhood Education Care setting.

Ginninderry is growing and opening the region’s first school in Strathnairn will give local families, as well as families looking to move there, confidence that they will have a high-quality local public school close to where they live.

An expression of interest process will soon be launched via Tenders ACT.
