Tuggeranong foreshore

The Tuggeranong community have shared their views on foreshore and playground improvements.

Canberrans continue to add their voice to a host of projects to provide better community infrastructure across the suburbs and town centres.

The Tuggeranong community was given the opportunity to have their say on improvements coming to Tuggeranong foreshore and playgrounds in Gordon and Chisholm.

The revitalisation of the town centre continues with work carried out on Anketell Street, the laneways to Lake Tuggeranong and pedestrian and cyclist improvements. These works aim to improve public access, safety and environment of the public space.

The community was asked what improvements they would like to see at the Tuggeranong foreshore with more than 650 items of feedback received.

Key themes included:

  • better walking and cycling paths;
  • outdoor vendor spaces;
  • upgraded facilities including public toilets, seating and gathering spaces;
  • more trees and landscaping; and
  • better play opportunities at the Tuggeranong Town Park playground.

Consultation was also carried out on playground upgrades coming to Chisholm and Gordon, with more than 300 pieces of feedback that will help shape designs.

Key themes:

  • There was overall support for upgrading the Alston Street and Point Hut Pond District Park playgrounds.
  • The top three amenity improvements were furniture, shade sails and picnic shelters. With trees for shade, path access and fencing also of high importance.
  • Top priorities for play equipment included nature play, learn to ride facilities, all abilities play equipment and climbing structures.
