Do you have a creative, innovative, diverse and inclusive idea that will drive visitors to the City Centre and Braddon and strengthen the community’s connection to public place?

Expressions of interest are now open for the City Renewal Authority’s 2023-2024 Placemaking Grants program. With multiple grants of up to $50,000 on offer, it is time for Canberrans to pitch their ideas.

Applicants can submit ideas spanning a range of categories including arts, events, marketing, installations, and vacant space activation.

Yanni Pounartzis is the artist behind Garema Place’s resident giant chip-eating magpie, Big swoop, and a previous recipient of a Placemaking Grant.

“To see Big swoop become an instant Canberra icon has been incredibly rewarding,” said Yanni.

"It has touched so many people and judging by the love and attention it's receiving after one year of its inception, I think it will be loved for years to come.

“The Placemaking Grant helped me bring my idea to life in the way I had intended. Big swoop wouldn't exist without the Placemaking Grant and I'm very grateful to be a recipient. The result was a memorable addition to Garema Place that is continually enjoyed by the community,” said Yanni.

It is now even easier for individuals and organisations to bring their projects to life. For more information on City Renewal Authority’s Placemaking Grants program visit: act.gov.au/cityrenewal
