Young Canberran Ollie has dreams of following in the footsteps of his cricket idol Marnus Labuschagne, and isn’t going to let anything get in the way.

The 10-year-old aspiring cricketer spends his free time practising down at his local Campbell cricket nets.

When Ollie noticed the nets and grounds needed repairs, he took it upon himself to get something done.

“I saw everyone’s balls would keep getting destroyed and everyone was wasting money on it,” Ollie told WIN News.

Ollie wrote to ACT Government and Cricket ACT asking for help, even offering suggestions on repairs; using wire from his family’s farm, and even giving a financial breakdown on where to obtain the synthetic grass.

The ACT Government’s City Services team went to work immediately to repair the nets and laid good condition recycled synthetic turf.

Now fixed, Ollie and all the other aspiring cricketers in Canberra can continue practising at their best, on their way to stardom.

Community sport is important, so if your local sport facility needs repairs, you can go to www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au/s/fix-my-street and the City Services team will investigate.
