A new all-abilities friendly, dirt bike trail has been built in Evatt thanks to the collaboration of the local community.

Funded by Abilities Unlimited Australia, the trail is located behind Evatt Primary School and includes a beginner track, an intermediate loop and technical features.

Abilities Unlimited Australia have multiple programs that run on Saturday mornings at Evatt Primary School. The four-stage Cyclabilities program takes children all the way from not being able to balance on, or ride a bike through to the teaching the importance of road safety through to tackling the newly constructed features on the dirt track.

“Abilities Unlimited Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that teaches children of all abilities how to do important life skills, including learning how to ride a bike or skateboard, water safety, as well as the fundamentals of movement, team sports and now self-defence,” Robin Arranz, CEO of Abilities Unlimited Australia said.

“We funded the dirt track as an investment to grow our cyclabilities program which kicked off in 2016 and is now a four-stage program with the fourth stage of that being the dirt track ‘head for the dirt’.”

“The track has jumps and teaches the children about getting out of the saddle, changing gears, taking banked corners and to help develop some off-road skills.”

The trail is also supported by the Bumps and Berms volunteer program which allows the community to add play value to neighbourhood spaces by designing and creating dirt bike tracks. The trails are typically short, with features such as jumps and ramps (bumps) and banked turns (berms).

Bumps and Berms trails provide the opportunity for riders to safely practice and learn skills within their local community.
