Congratulations to Canberra's Citizen of the Year for 2023, Katrina Fanning AO PSM.

Katrina Fanning AO PSM has been named 2023 Canberra Citizen of the Year.

Katrina was awarded the honour in recognition of her dedication to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

A Wiradjuri woman, Katrina is the Director of Coolamon Advisors, an Indigenous majority owned and managed consultancy company, dedicated to providing meaningful contributions to Indigenous development, participation, and outcome equity.

From 2017-2021, she was the Chairperson of the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body and was the Head of Secretariat, Coalition of Peaks on Closing the Gap from 2021-22.

Following her success as a rugby league player, Katrina was appointed Chairperson with the Australian Rugby League Indigenous Council in 2012 and was a past President of Australia Women’s Rugby League. She is also currently a Director of the Canberra Raiders, and President of the Canberra Women’s Rugby League.

Katrina’s previous achievements include being appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in the 2023 Australia Day Honours, winner of the ACT Australian of the Year Award in 2020, a Public Service Medal for outstanding public service in Indigenous Affairs in 2015, ACT Woman of the Year in 2014, and ACT NAIDOC Person of the Year in 2014.

The Canberra Citizen of the Year Award recognises citizens who have made a major contribution to the community and helps to promote a sense of civic pride.
