The ACT Government is committed to keep Stromlo Forest Park as one of Australia’s premier sport and mountain biking destinations.
03 March 2023
Stromlo Forest Park is a premier recreation destination and continues to experience growing popularity, attracting around 560,000 visitors each year.
This popularity is placing pressure on the facilities in the park. The site requires ongoing maintenance and new, interesting and challenging tracks and trails to keep its status as one of Australia’s best places to experience recreational activities.
The ACT Government is committed to keeping Stromlo Forest Park as one of Australia’s premier sport and mountain biking destinations with continued investment and ongoing improvements.
Following the completion of upgrades to the car park, a paid parking model will be introduced later in the year, with all revenue generated to be invested directly back into Stromlo. This includes the construction of new trails as well as ongoing maintenance of the existing network.
This investment model is based on the success of the National Arboretum Canberra, which uses the same approach to deliver new infrastructure and a better experience for locals and visitors.
Parking fees will be modest and accommodate those who need to use the park for long periods of time:
- 15 minutes drop off- free
- 15mins - 3 hours: $1.75
- 3-6 hours: $2.75
- 6+ hours: $3.90.
For frequent users an annual $87 pass will also be available, this equates to $1.67 per week over the year.
Paid parking arrangements will be implemented following the construction of the formalised car parking facilities expected towards the end of 2023.
Information about this initiative will be available on the Stromlo Forest Park website, as more detail becomes available.
